Learning to live alongside grief
by Anonymous
What happened?
My mum died suddenly. We were close, and she was the person I called about everything.
What was the hardest part?
Going to pick up the phone to tell her something, again and again.
What actually helped?
Talking about her. Out loud, with people who knew her, and with people who didn't.
What didn't help?
Being told I should be 'over it' by a certain point.
What do you know now that you wish you'd known then?
Grief doesn't shrink so much as your life grows around it.
What happened next?
I still miss her every day. I also have a life she'd be glad of. Both are true.
